Krink Interview

Who knew dripping paint on a wall could get you worldwide fame! Well if you’re the mastermind behind a revolutionary brand such as KRINK you may well be on your way. Not content with regular paint and spray, Craig Costello (aka KR) set out to concoct a mixture to blow minds and fill his pockets with loot! An avid artist, KR was always on the look-out for something more - a step away from the filled-in fonts and tags that were becoming the norm in the graffiti scene. With a clever package and a simple solution, KRINK dripped its way around the globe, “allowing KR’s trademark aesthetic to develop in the hands of artist and vandals worldwide.” Sneakerfreaker caught up with the man behind the brand on the eve of his first local tour!

Tuesday, den 17. March 2009

If you aren’t tired of the 100th interview with the photographer Alex Fakso from Italy here is another one.

Italian-born, Alex Fakso began his career in the early 90s as a skate photographer. He subsequently embarked upon a more targeted personal quest which led him to record the entire process of graffiti writers in action, in both train and subway depots. A skater and graffiti writer himself, he has a raw, direct, uncompromising approach to photography and is always looking for images that portray hard and extreme situations.

Enso Interview

SensesLost interviewed Vancouver based writer Ensoe.

What do you write? Where are you from? What crews do you rep?
Ensoe: I write Ensoe, Born and raised in East Vancouver.. I rep NWK and BHG

How’d you get the name Ensoe?

Ensoe: Honestly, it was just word play and letter flow. I use to write neos, until i found out there was already 2 different neos’ from Canada so I flipped the letters around to create something more original and it just clicked. Now its become as relevant as my real name, and I’m often referred to as Ensoe, from family and friends.

Let’s learn to live with (good) graffiti

Tuesday, den 3. March 2009

A teenager was sentenced this week to three months in prison for tagging a cafe in Hyde Park with a felt pen, marking a new low in the long and futile war on graffiti.

Many people find tagging ugly and annoying, and it can be costly to remove. But is it appropriate to imprison someone for three months (at a cost of more than $20,000 to the taxpayer) for writing one non-offensive word on a wall (at a removal cost of $200 to the property owner)?

Graffiti has always been with us. But new forms of graffiti associated with hip-hop culture - including tags and murals (or “pieces”) - began appearing in Sydney in the 1980s. Since then, governments of all persuasions have waged a war on graffiti. They have established specialist police squads. They have deployed rapid removal teams to paint the town brown. They have erected countless kilometres of barbed wire and thousands of surveillance cameras. They have legislated harsher penalties for graffiti offenders. They have sought to make spray-paint less accessible. They have even censored graffiti magazines and computer games. The objective? Zero tolerance.

Lady Pink

Monday, den 2. March 2009

O.G. Lady Pink started tagging freight trains at 15, but denounces reckless graff writers

Lady Pink has been painting the streets of NYC for almost 30 years, first bombing freight trains and now painting commissioned murals. She bears witness to the evolution of street art through the decades, especially when it comes to the women involved. She moved to NYC from Ecuador at the age of 7, and considers herself 100% American. Her contribution to graffiti has earned her worldwide notoriety, which she uses to build up the new generation of artists. She is married to fellow artist Smith, and together they run the mural painting business PinkSmith. Lady Pink is feisty as ever and ready to assert her opinions, which are many. —Kirsten Incorvaia
